Chapter 6: social work with individuals and families. Three main categories: social work with individuals, group work, and community work. Working with individuals and family process of helping ind. is sometimes called social casework. Social work practice = involves steps with different skills and theories involved. Process of reflection-action-reflection: where social worker continually thinks things through while acting on the problem at hand with consultation with the client. Helps social workers understand how their own identities, beliefs, and their professional and personal lives are shaped by forces in society (media, parental influence, etc. ) Initially equated with casework and psychotherapy, uses various theoretical perspectives, critical, feminist, and structural social workers engage on this term. Two key themes that distinguished this: person-centred perspective and the importance of the helping relationship. Evaluation and termination social worker may review the intervention and determine: Validating feelings: builds a rapport and helps client to identify and sort out variety of feelings.
