Haraway we are not living lives controlled by tech determinism. It is in our control: but use tech that is outside of our control, need to see sources of power within tech that can be used creatively and politically. Developments in communication tech have opened up new ways of communicating (eg. protests like checking in during the standing rock protests) Cyborg manifesto: written in 1985, context: reagan era, lots of plans for weapons from space. Basically wanted to intersect nuclear weapons from outer space: cold war was still at it"s height (cid:894)reaching the end(cid:895), early 80s there was an acceleration of the chance of nuclear war, cyborg discussed is a metaphor. It is about the transformative power of tech and the implications of this. Information systems can be used in oppressive ways. Governmentality the control and management of information as tools for governments/corporations/armies/schools/prisons etc. Information is power: that power can become oppressive.
