APSC 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Borda Count
Document Summary
Describe the goals and stages in the identify most promising solution stage of the desing process. Define screening, ranking and scoring and explain how they are used in this stage of the process. Describe how requirements and objectives from design specifications in stage 1 are used in stage 3. Goal: narrow down all possible solutions to our design problems, and identify the solution to be developed. Requirements: the limits of acceptability for a design. Objectives: measures that distinguish between levels of performance or stakeholder satisfaction. Individual voting: everyone needs to have a good understanding of the problem, the objectives and the concepts. Too many ideas brought through ranking leads to more work to analyze ideas. Too few ideas through ranking leads to overlooking a top idea. Need to be able to justify all decisions to your boss/client. The process of these decisions and choices is most important during this module in comparison to the final product.
