ASIA 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Köppen Climate Classification, Environmental Determinism
Document Summary
Culture regions in time thus: mountains and sea do provide at least some relatively clear boundaries within which asian civilizations developed but: physical boundaries are never absolute boundaries. Asia can be defined by the exterior circling oceans and the interior mountain ranges that divide the asian continent into fairly clear identifiable physical units. 50s, 60s, 70s began considering asia as those places affected by the monsoon season. In summer the interior of asia is filled from the southwest with massive rain clouds. Koeppen climate classification, asia: only aw is true monsoon climate though some regions (i. e. most of china) is under the influence of the monsoon to greater or lesser degree. Asia, as far as monsoons go, is not uniform. B. in some areas sufficient water for rice cultivation. In some areas with limited monsoon rains, still sufficient for dry land farming wheat or in even areas of even more limited rainfall, millet etc.
