Document Summary

How it mediates between our experience of our lives and the stories it is telling us. Has to do with form, how it carries us along, how the poem makes up anticipate the next rhyme, the next stanza, the rest of the story. Everything else falls away this special ability of poetry. Bc it can do this and carry us in this way, it(cid:859)s not just verse/form, it(cid:859)s not the filling in the blanks it more that poetry has something in excess than form, more profound than an exercise. Wordsworth thinks that poetry is the most important medium to combat the savage torpor. The antidote are poems that are salutary things that taste bad but good for us. Gives us readers to practice being in a situation of struggle and agitated to teach us not to give up staying with stuff that is hard, being in a state of discomfort, experience difference.
