Document Summary

Geographic areas held together by a common plant community. Almost all have become extinct due to human invasion. Deserts: occurs around +/-30 degrees from the equator. Epiphytic plants live off or on top of plants. Lots of rain majority of the year. The root like things on the bottom of the rainforest trees is called buttressed. They support the tree because of lots of water in the soil challenging the roots. Temperature warms and rainfall very high over equator- rainforest. Temperatures are warm but rainfall is slow at about 30 degrees north and south of equator- deserts. Because of the angle of incidence of sun rays. Direct sunlight = small area = more energy. Light at an angle travels through more atmosphere. Earth tilted on its axis at about 23 degrees. In our northern summer the northern hemisphere receives light from a high angle (high energy) where as in our winter light hits the northern hemisphere at a lower energy.
