COGS 300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Logic Puzzle
Document Summary
When an individual encounters a feature of the environment the individual will be changed in various ways. I see something and my brain records it especially if i don"t respond to it right away (as the watt governor does) > register it for later. I enter a warm room, my face turns red, and i begin to perspire. It has been suggested that a represents b when it resembles b. I prop it up in your place at the dining table. But, two oranges resemble one another even though they do not represent each other. Perhaps someone can use their resemblance to make one into a representation of the other. Maybe, then, we should say that when a carries information about b and resembles b, then it is a representation of b. 35 degrees represents the ambient temperature, but doesn"t resemble it. It seems that resemblance is just one of many ways to carry information.
