Your phone is able to know the locations of the other satellites right away. Process: download almanac, download ephemeris, your device locks onto as many satellites and reads the code being sent by those satellites. When the gps was first launched, us military were surprised that gps was very accurate. Gps could tell you where you were in 50 metres.
