CRWR 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Universal Grammar, Deus Ex, Bechdel Test
Document Summary
There is no distinctive shape, but in the world, there are a number of things you can write about. The things you write about could be awful, beautiful, endless number of things, meaningless things. You could write a story about any of these things. Universal grammar of stories --> linked to noam chomsky"s universal. These elements should all be in your assignments. Conflict --> when all stories are trouble (i. e. like the flight simulator, where you are testing out the problem in the story) The part where you throw stones at your character. Change --> the story goes through a change (i. e. through climax, a way the story/character changes substantially and can no longer go back) Structural ambiguity: when a story structure has no change --> none of the characters change because none of the characters engage with the conflict. It is necessary to have all three elements of character, conflict and change present.
