Assignment #1: due sept. 20 @ 12:30 pm. Using the melody and overall structure of an existing song, write new lyrics to it. Though you are likely going to be following the same meter and phrasing of the original track, don"t feel constrained by the rhyme scheme necessarily, nor the existing themes or ideas of the original song. Try and some up with something that"s your own, that"s unique. For your submission, include a lyrics sheet, mp3 recording of the song sung with the lyrics. Do not use original song music as backing track. If you do not play your own instrument ask someone to help you in accompaniment. Don"t need to match all the parts and sections. Indicate original song and artist somewhere when turning it in. In your notebook, take a few minutes to reflect on your own songwriting process, how you go about it, what"s worked what"s been your challenges, etc.
