Transportation planning in vancouver and the need for regional transportation investment. Bringing everyone into alignment, integrating all opinions from people: 2008: 60% of people in the motor vehicle. Passengers: target for 2020: 50% of people in the motor vehicle. But 2014 and 2015: 49. 6% already: 2040: 2/3rds of all trips on foot, bike or transit. Need to grow the other modes, and remove a bit of space for auto transit: safety goal: zero fatalities on transport. Regional transportation investment: all rely on each other as one larger system, past investments in rapid transit = yielded big dividends. Since 2006: transit mode shift is unmatched in north america. Strong growth due to investment in transit system: ridership in metro van vastly outperforms cities of similar size. Metro vancouver has higher rider than 9 of these peer cities combined: metro vancouver is the 4th most transit-oriented region.
