Document Summary

Communication and travel between the physical and spiritual worlds were not unusual. (lisa marie, grandmother) Small pox: resulted in ghost towns- spirits. Novel is written in a big circle. Read the beginning and end to see what lisa marie"s journey end up at. She anticipates that her brother is dead and will encounter him at monkey beach as he passed over to the spiritual world. The novel moves through the two worlds (spritual and present) seemlesly. Everywhere are environmental features and entities imbued with humanness. The ultimate message is that we have relatives all around us: the rocks, mountains, trees, edible roots, animals. People are only one form of a large and diverse family of beings and entities, including both physical and spiritual realms. (tsawalk) Wherever one travels, one can be confronted by geographical landmarks associated with great events that provide orientation to , and exploration of, the nature of existence.
