Document Summary

Television has always been an experimental medium and alternative to film. It offers things that cinema cannot (i. e. immediacy or a sense of live ness) Tv rituals were not artistic but more rooted in the family. They are designed to be viewed by a broad audience and viewed for a large range of audiences (also catered to people who aren"t really paying attention, i. e. there are moments in the episodes where there is a recap after a commercial break) The pacing of the scenes is very economical > everything serves a purpose. Narratives can be stretched (as characters could develop relationships with one another and thus exceed the time limit they have) > e. g. criminal minds. Stylistic/thematic trends > how they developed their careers. Ongoing "agenda" > an issue that is very personal to them that strikes them. Audience association > they associate the show runner with a type of show.
