Document Summary
Modernity refers to many things not just a historical period, analytical concept, general of being, movement in modern art. 17th century age of reason, 18th century enlightenment. A paradigm shift away from medieval thoughts and god. What is ethics instead of what does god want. A historical epoch that is not medieval thought is modern thought. Deal with modernist art is more than just copies of nature. Modernity of the prioritization of the individual, moving away from god. The movement away from feudalism and capitalism, away from lords and owners of large lands, and not belong to a piece of property. With the rise of capitalism, people made offtime, not just toil land all the time. A break of work and then come back to work. Rise of urbanization, theatres, peep shows, shopping, etc. Entire epoch: 1600-1970s, mostly to baudelaire and his view of art movement. Things are changing, not as static as though it would be.
