Interpretation: prediction - predict what will happen b/c of data, explanation - can explain data, application - apply data. Theories about children embedded in theories about families. Last for a considerably longer period of time than most other social groups. Family of origin ( family we are born into ) Family of procreation ( family we begin our self : are inter - generational, contain both biological / non biological ( fictive ) relationships b/w members ( larger kinship system )
