Document Summary

List the requirements a species needs to survive, contrasting plants with animals, with brief explanations. Define an ecological niche, contrast the fundamental from the realized niche. Predict how climate change will change things. Definition: spatial and temporal distribution of plants and animals and processes influencing the distribution. Spatial patterns at local and regional scales. Physical and biological processes, including human impacts. What do species need to survive: resources, all things consumed/used by an organism, consumption decreases the supply of resources, plants need, water from soil, sunlight, nutrients (micro/macro, carbon dioxide from atmosphere, space to acquire resources. Intro to biogeography: animals need, oxygen from atmosphere, water from the environment, nutrient and energy sources (plants and other animals, space to acquire resources, suitable environmental factors, abiotic environmental factors that influence organisms- not consumer. Each species is able to exist and reproduce successful only within a range of values for a particular environmental factor.
