Document Summary

Geob 102 - our changing environment: climate and ecosystems - lecture 12: Use the environmental temperature lapse rate (etlr) and the dry adiabatic lapse rate (dalr) When you are in lower altitudes, the temperature is hotter (normally) Difference between the temperature in air parcel and the surrounding still air temperature is bigger when there is condensation taking place. Thunderstorm: an intense convective storm associated with tall, dense cumulonimbus clouds with very strong updrafts. Latent heat fuels the convection process and drives the parcel higher. The hotter the air parcel, the lighter they are. Microburst: an intense downdraft from a thunderstorm, lasting from seconds to minutes . Weather - the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place, with respect to variables such as temperature, moisture, wind velocity, and barometric pressure. Meteorology - science of the atmosphere, particularly the physics of short-term fluctuations that occur in the lower atmosphere.
