Cities of global south: many of the current mega cities in the global south were either established during colonialism or were drawn into the colonial system. After 1950, there was an increase in migration from rural areas to. Global south is an analytical and a political concept underpinned by histories of colonialism, global capitalism and uneven development. The process of urbanization is not in tune with either industrialization or modernization. Informality: is a dominant mode of behavior of cities in major power. They are neither legal nor illegal but a zone in between. They are precarious and vulnerable space, where individuals do not have legal rights. Informal economy: waste picking, street vending or small scale manufacturing. Slums: lacks access to resources, lacks security, overcrowded, structural quality. Six parts of the city: old colonial city, inner city, industrial lands, suburbs and slums, urban peripheries. Old colonial city: fort: well planned and beautiful architecture, wider road.
