Document Summary

Using an underwater rig for longlines, or only utilizing long line during night time. "backing down" techniques or putting a ban on setting purse in presence of dolphins (for purse seine fishing technique) Mid water trawling --> employing species specific mechanisms (i. e. trapdoors for turtles) This is difficult to measure as fish is constantly moving around, thus difficult to count fish (so expensive and not easily done) A problem is that it doesn"t take into account fish that is caught and then thrown back (by-catch) into the ocean, as well as illegal/unregulated fisheries. There is a historic pattern of over-exploited fisheries. Leads to an abundance decline, with a rise in fishery exploitation and catch, however profits drop down as there are no abundance to sell. The collapse phase is when there are negative profits (although you are maintaining fleet size at the same time), since there is almost no abundance and no catch.
