GEOG 311 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Anemometer, Greywater, Water Balance
Document Summary
Water in cities --> urban development is closely related to the availability and quality of water (the presence of humans are needed in cities, regardless where the environment is located) Access to water as a resource, but also water as a hazard for public health/living conditions/food production and economic development in cities (concerns the maintenance of the water) Resource --> for supply (as the basis of life, e. g. fresh water), flushing, cooling, irrigation, power, recreation. Hazard --> water can occur in storms, floods and droughts. Managing water resources in cities --> there are 3 goals for integrative water resource management. Making sure that pipes don"t leak and that citizens understand there are water restrictions. Protect water resources --> avoid chemical and biological contamination (thus strictly limit access), maintain health for humans and ecosystems in the city and downstream of city.
