Document Summary
It was impossible to fully restore things the way before. Old ruling families returned to france, spain, naples, netherlands. Politically impossible to have the hre again. German confederation - roughly same boundaries as hre. 39 separate countries rather than 300+ states. Fantasized that they could go back to the way before the revolution. People who realized that things had changed but still wanted to uphold the way things were. Traditional authority structures should be back in place. The well-to-do should show kindness to the lower orders of society. Got their political ideas from the enlightenment. Believed that countries should be ruled not only just by kings or royals but written constitutions, rules, elections (parliament, legislature) Better and safer to have a written constitution like united states of america, saying how the country should be governed. Didn"t think everyone should vote - people who should vote should be the people with some amount of property to make sensible decisions.
