1920s 1940s: there were initial expressions made towards food production and health. Organic school: a reaction against industrial agriculture which looked at the use of artificial fertilizers. Justus von liebig: organic matters were approached as able to be substituted (e. g. manure, fish), e. g. (e. g. manure, fish), e. g. they may plant a soil to provide the fertility needed for the soil. Rothansted (a birthplace of modern agriculture): 1840s > became the headquarters of npk mentality. Npk (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium): believed to give enough chemicals to what is needed for plants to grow. Broadbalk field experiment: experimented with chemical artificial fertilizers + natural fertilizers. A certain plot used artificial fertilizers while the another plot used natural fertilizers. They made use of excessive phosphorus which proved to not have any harm to the plants. 1943: british minister of agriculture stated that this experiment had established the main principles of industrial agriculture.
