Document Summary

Czechs, slovaks and somewhat bulgarians were beneficiaries from the war in the sense they were given lucrative promises. That these people would fight for the allied cause during the war. They didn"t necessarily look at who was doing what in. Whatever was bothering them abroad, they brought them back to continental europe (for example: england was annoyed at germany for whatever they were doing to british colonies in africa) They expected the world war to be similar to the franco-prussian war of 1871. ie: ended within six weeks. They believed they could start and stop the war at any moment. The great powers thought they could start the war at anytime, that it would end quickly. Status of permanent neutrality: they (great powers) vowed not to attack any small powers such as belgium, switzerland, belgium. Had most small powers (here we mean scandinavia) been able to secure permanent neutrality, there would have been more security.
