Each part has a function and works to sustain the unity of the whole. Cohesion and unity are maintained if everyone has the same value system. Functional parts, dysfunctional parts (harmful to system), nonfunctional parts (neutral/irrelevant to system) When all parts fulfilled = normal state. Healthy people essential for the maintenance of social stability and order. How sick people are expected to act. Illness became seen as a form of deviance - see sick people as bad, don"t want to have anything to do with them.
