Differentiation basically provides you with a tool to calculate the speed/rate of changes in the values of any quantity. Some basic uses are finding velocity and speed but more profound uses are calculating the values of a function (with using a calculator!!) using taylor series or finding the largest/smallest values of a graph. Integration basically allows you to, in a way, find the sum of the subsequent values of a quantity or function. Some basic uses are finding areas under curves or volumes of rotating curves. Consider the area between a graph, let"s say y = e^x , the x axis and two vertical lines. Here the two vertical lines are x=0 and x = 1 and the area is shaded as shown.
