NEST 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Photogrammetry, Near East, Chalcolithic
Document Summary
When you nd a pit , you must clear it out before you continue excavations. ie. sometimes you"ll nd coins in latrines that a ect dating if they slip deeper into the ground. Once ancient architectural features have been excavated, they have to be recorded through plans and photographs. The above picture shows an excavation top plan": boxed numbers stand for lots or locus numbers. Lots or locus numbers: show features within the square. The other numbers in the picture (ie. 223. 25) are elevations (meters above sea level). Photogrammetry: a way of recording architecture that involves the use of coded markers/scores or hundreds of overlapping photographs. The overlapping pictures can be put together to form one photograph that is usually a 3d image. You can draw or use photogrammetry for baulk drawings, but photogrammetry is the new and improved way of doing things. Note that there will not be stratigraphy on the midterm.
