Causes that have been refuted/cannot be proven: inadequacy of care, excess stimulation, parental anxiety/stress, immature cns (premature baby), temperament, gi tract inflammation. Theory that has been most favored/studied: gi-related etiology: gi intolerances producing discomfort (ex. Only in 5% of cases there is an underlying pathology. Must rule out abnormal physical findings and gi disorders (if ~4 months, consider gerd) Duration, when it started, any changes around the time it started.
