PHIL 335 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Louis Althusser, Labour Power, Contractible Space
Document Summary
And one explanation for this is that there is a certain amount of ideology. Where there"s this overlying agreement to support and maintain this system. So in this sense, marx does talk about the ideology, they think of it, they take it in the idea that society is separated into the superstructure and the base, Base is the forces of production (means of production and labour power) and relations of production. Superstructure is the state, political institution, education, philosophy, culture, religion . It is the economic base that determines, of plays this determining role in what is the base. Marx says that it is the base that is the sort of primary determinate, and it"s not that the superstructure plays no role, it definitely does, but it is largely determined by the economy! We have to produce the goods we are making, then we have to reproduce the organization of the production process itself, to keep those goods producing.
