Document Summary

Different natures must have different pursuits, but now it seems that different natures are to be given the same pursuit. Eristic derives from greek god, ares : god of strife. There is no difference in the predisposition of their souls, which is what really counts. There is no role in the management of the city that is better suited to either a male or a female simply because they are either male of female. Women get to train naked ( clothing themselves in virtue instead of cloaks ) in the gym along with the men. Furthermore: all women are to be shared among the men. No marriage, no living together: all children are to be shared among the men and women. No parent knowing its own offspring, and no child its parent. Socrates avoids the question entirely of how viable this plan is and goes on to assume that it is.
