The grand bargain is based around a policy of territorial accommodation where the u. s. is to relinquish its military backing of taiwan. In exchange, china is to agree to resolve its disputes in the south & east china seas peacefully, and recognize us military presence in the region for the long run. China has stated that acquiring taiwan as part of its homeland is one of their primary policy aims. So, us protection of taiwan is a major point of conflict and insecurity between the two superpowers and will likely cause further issues in the future as china continues to rise. The cons of the grand bargain include the possibility of china becoming more confident and aggressive due to decrease in its belief of us credibility (in regards to protecting their allies). If they no longer believe the us to be credible in their commitments to their allies, china may aim for aggressive regional hegemony, which would adversely harm.
