1933-1945, german government led by hitler and nazi party carried out the systematic killing of european jews. Also killed politically, racially and socially unfit people. Hard for jews to escape anywhere due to this. Most murdered in gas chambers, usually with in hours of arrival. 6 millions jews were killed (2/3 of european jews) and 5 million others from persecuted groups. One subject = teacher, one subject = student. Teacher assumes experiment is just as the experimenter explains. Learner is an actor who is in on the experiment. Teacher watches the learner be strapped to a chair and electrocuted. Teacher is given a sample shock so they know what it feels like. Teacher moved to adjourning room to read word pairs for learner to memorize. If wrong word pair given back, teacher has to shock them, each wrong answer leads to an even stronger shock. Slight shock, severe shock, all the way to deadly shock.
