Document Summary

Projects, charity being one of them, could not change the underlying system. Not realizing this is the fallacy of many intellectual works. Heart in the right place does not equal charitable outcomes. Colonialism, geography, corruption, ethnic tension, capitalism, freedom: colonialism. Niall ferguson: the good old day of colonialism. Essentially, he argues that colonialism did not cause some countries" problems (ghana, for example) However, the political and economic structures are the residues of colonial rule, and it would be ignorant to ignore the negative effects of colonialism. China, taiwan, and korea have all been colonized before: geography. Haiti and dominican republic do not differ in geography, but political structure. Jeffrey sachs focuses on geography: corruption. Corruption is merely a result of colonial rule. China and india also have corrupt states right now yet they are taking charge: ethnic tension. Nobody hates each other unless political turmoil begins. So ethnicity is not the root cause.
