Measurement and description: measurement: the act of making observations; the assignment of numbers or labels to events, objects, behaviours, etc, descriptions need to be systematic and complete. Prediction, manipulation and control: basic vs applies research. Nativism: the view that certain skills or abilities are native" or hard wired into the brain at birth. Rationalism: the view that the exercise of reason (rather than experience, authority, or spiritual revelation) provides the primary basis for knowledge. Authoritarianism: the view that knowledge comes from those in a position of authority. Empiricism: the view that (all of) our knowledge is acquired though the years with experience. Other problems with the experience way of knowing: 1977: there is no reason for anyone to have a computer in their home. People hold a bias; we can use the scientific method to get around that. The philosophy that the perception we have right now (whether it"s right or wrong) is what the world is.
