Vision is used to identify objects in the environment, and helps interaction. Ventral stream: important for the identification of object. Goes from area v1 and temporal lobe, linked to short term memory. Object localization: knowing where things are relative to a person. There are specific used within the ventral stream. Facial inversion: unable to detect irregularities of upside down faces. Fusiform face area can be damaged by stroke and trauma. Not only dedicated to human face, used also for areas of individual expertise. Some researchers suggest this region of an autistic brain may have the same affect. Ventral stream is linking visual information to knowledge (bridge) Visual agnosia: inability to identify objects using vision. Optic ataxia: inability to accurately use vision to guide manual actions. Can still identify the object, can still move limbs. Problem will often go away, but sometimes may never go away, more strokes.
