Document Summary

To get over disagreements and biases, psychologists follow a few rules when asking questions and gathering data: Openness- psychology is for everyone and by everyone. Falsifiable hypothesis- psychologists formulate inflexible predictions that can clearly be shown to be false with some observations. Data can be collected in many different ways, and each method has its own pros and cons. Secretly observing participants in their natural habitat and writing down their behavior in response to various everyday situations (they don"t know that they are being observe) Remove demands characteristic- people are not being told. High external validity - just how real the participants are behaving, quite sure that the bahaviors that are being observed are real. Only observe for small periods of time, so you cannot observe through a lot of environments, can"t tell which aspects of the environment caused the behavior we are observing.
