Document Summary
Psych 102 003 lecture #3 chapter 1. Activity assignment #1 will be announced on wednesday. Descriptive research: observing and describing (no control: case study: individuals/companies, in-depth study, survey research, naturalistic observation: documenting/describing behaviours in nature. Correlational research: observing relationships: correlational study: correspondence/correlation/relationship btw different variables. Experimental research: finding cause and effect (controlled: experiments eg. double-blind, placebo-controlled study of treatment effectiveness. Ways to measure persistence: different methods for different groups and purposes. Could have a larger idea like self-control where one aspect is persistence and another like the kids waiting. Self-report: grit questionnaire: survey, more feasible for larger groups. Good surveys: repetitive of main idea (different phrasing) so the different aspects for different individuals still triangulate to the main idea. Good surveys: positive and negative which requires reverse coding, (ex. 5 in negative is a 1, then you get an average score) needed for human differences, response bias (there is a right answer, want to remove that factor)
