Document Summary

Intelligence the mental potential to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to adapt to new situations. General intelligence (g) a general intelligence factor that, underlies specific mental abilities and is therefore measured by every task on an intelligence test. Several distinct abilities tend to cluster together and to correlate enough to define a general intelligence factor. Eight relative independent intelligences: naturalist, linguist, logical-mathematical, musical, spatial, bodily- kinesthetic, intrapersonal, interpersonal. Just proposed the ninth existential intelligence the ability to ponder large question about life, death, existence. Come in different package, so brain damage might only destroy one ability. Creative intelligence: well-defined problems, school grades. Practical intelligence: creativity, novel ideas, not well-defined problems that has many solutions, management. Multiple abilities can contribute to life success, and differing varieties of giftedness add spice to life and challenges for education. Under their influence, many teachers have been trained to appreciate such variety and to apply multiple intelligence theories in their classrooms.
