PSYC 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Myelin, Schwann Cell, Peripheral Nervous System
Document Summary
In your brain, part of the blood-brain barrier - making sure no blood gets into your brain. Makes sure neurons have oxygen and nutrients. Wrapped around synapses, important for controlling the environment around neurons. When sense danger they turn to gooey state, if there is danger they enlarge and engulf the dangerous cells. Myelinate the axon - creating a myelin sheath around the axon. In the cns (central nervous system - brain) Could use stains and apply to tissue to study the brain. Afferent information - coming to the brain. Efferent information - coming from the brain to the body. Sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system affect same areas but do opposite things. At different layers of cortex there are different cells and different part of cortex have different layer structures. Mindbrain - pulls your eyes to tvs and screens. Hindbrain - cerebellum, breathing, heartbeat, basic evolutionary controls.
