Theory of the unconscious think iceberg (look @ notes) Id: the unconscious energy that works towards satisfying basic urges, needs, and desires. Based on pleasure principle, and demands immediate gratification of needs. The only part of personality that is present at birth. Superego: the internalized ideals acquired from parents and society. Works to suppress urges of id and make the ego behave morally, rather than realistically. Balances the demands of the id, the superego, and reality. It prevents us from acting on our basic urges, but also achieve balance with moral and idealistic standards.
