Document Summary

Person / nature : person can include any individual difference or personality characteristic. nature refers specifically to genetic makeup. Situation / nurture: very similar environmental and contextual factors. nurture focuses on childhood environment and parenting: the native vs the empiricists. We assume that it"s a complex interaction of both. Cannot tease those 2 things apart: this is a question at the group or population level. The degree of differences: not every trait has the same degree of genetic variance or environmental variance, the human genome progress with personality. Only 2 candidate genes with real evidence: 1. dopamine receptor gene drd4 linked to novelty- seeking (among many psychiatric conditions) 2. serotonin transporter gene 5-httlpr linked to neurotics and other depressive and anxiety- related traits. This is the conclusion after 10 years of research. For most traits , there are a very large number of genes involved: unlikely to see one biological or physiological maker related to one psychological trait or construct.
