More heterozygosity: capitalizing more diversity and the immune system. People have different sets of defences that have evolved over time. More resistance to infections, more survivability, more survivability associated with higher attractiveness. Certain characteristics predict greater attraction across cultural environments on all 6 continents: emotional stability, dependability, kindness. All 4 are cross-culturally valued; especially emotional stability and dependability - applies to people of both sexes. Human attraction is a social process - whether romantic or platonic. Any process of appraising suitability of partner also a social process. Some aspects of social interactions increase attraction. Tendency to form interpersonal relationships with those we encounter more often (romantic or not romantic). Occurs due to mere exposure effect -> more exposure -> greater attraction to it. The more exposure we have to some novel stimulus (person or object), the more we come to like it over time. Primarily works for people for whom we had neutral, or positive impressions at rst.
