Childhood exposure to religious rituals (creds) makes adult religious belief & practice more likely. Over generations, fewer families going to church (e. g. northern europe) more non-religious adults. Secularization: separation of social life with non-overlapping domains, especially separation of religion from other public life, separate private from public life. Different aspects of life do not interact with each other. Major support for sustained cooperation in secular societies = government. 3rd party punishing institutions like laws, courts, police.
