People are active agents that navigate thru life by setting and pursuing goals. Goals: cognitive representations of self in future. How adjust goals to have something challenging, and meaningful . A canadian farmer, who has worked his farm all of his life, and really cares about his farm. This farmer is growing older, developing some health problems. Decides to pass up farm, and do something else. And as he gets older and older and more frail, he will have some plants on the window sill and look after and watch grow.
