PSYC 315 Lecture 7: Module 7 Notes - PSYC 315
Document Summary
1: developmental changes in emotions and emotional expression, development of emotion understanding, individual differences. If you"re feeling sad or depressed, you"ll be thinking more negative thoughts. E. g. we see a tiger (stimuli), we feel fear and because we have this fear, our heart rate increases, and we start sweating. In reality, this occurs in the opposite direction. Place pen in mouth and for half the class, pen is placed between their teeth and other half placed between their lips. About 15-20 minutes later, they had to complete an emotion rating scale. Those who had the pen between the teeth reported feeling happy, and those with the pen between their lips reported feeling sad. In between teeth forces you to smile; take on the facial musculature. Stimuli -> physiological changes -> interpretation -> emotion. No discrete physiological changes for different emotions. E. g. happiness and anger can result in an increase in heart rate: discrete emotions theory.
