Each institution creates a way of talking/thinking about sexuality that demarcates (ab)normality. Power relations are organized to support the norm and stigmatize the abnormal. How do intersections of gender and race transform or remake sexual possibilities and identities. Identify some of the different discourses of sexuality \at work in the film. What might an intersectional analysis reveal about the claim experts and filmmakers are making. In understanding the process of trying on gender, williams (2002) draws on connell"s concept of gender regimes. Connell has a schema for exploring how gender is embedded in all aspects of social life: What is considered a masculine or a feminine job practice, task, function, discourse. What belongs to the domain of masculinity and femininity. Helps to constitute a social structure (gdl gender division of labor) Examples: who does the dishes, who goes to work, who takes care of the babies. A pattern of gender arrangements they govern the organization of gender within an institution.
