Society shapes peoples health in a number of ways: Healthy is directly linked to what is seen as morally good. The tendency to locate hazardous waste sites and polluting industries near area populated by visible minorities, the poor and the marginalized. Ex: east l. a. - lots of visible minorities, video on wastes at parks. Society"s way to measure the quality of life: infant mortality rate- used because of the vulnerability of newborns. Working worse jobs, living in bad areas of town, exposed to racism immigrants are socialized into bad health. Because we have a better health care systems however, when you look at wealthy americas and wealthy canadians, their health is the same. Health deteriorates down the class ladder for several reasons: Unequal access to health care laptops, education, proximity to the hospitals. Lack of knowledge school system, knowledge of good/bad food. High stress and the inability to cope with it.
