We are all prone to acts considered normally societally deviant, this is referred to as situational deviance. Posits urban decay as symbol of disorder can enable escalation of crime within an area, both in number & severity. Active bystander model a means to intervene & potentially minimise normalisation of bystander-ing. An authorised sanction(penalty/deprivation) inflicted on someone for committing a transgression. "getting even" -offender must suffer proportionate to crime -an eye for an eye (thieves cannot be put to death -but a murderer can) Rehabilitation rehabilitate offender to prevent future crime, offender must recognise wrongdoing before "turning a new leaf". Parole -supervised early release is a means of rehabilitation. Dissuasion from further crime by making "cost" outweigh "benefit" - assumes rational cost-benefit analysis.
