Variables given a variable name and variable label by researcher in empirical research projects. Values - possible outcomes for a single variable. The variable gender might be coded 1=female, 2=male. Country dataset contains 24 variables and 154 cases. Marital status (married or common- law, divorced or separated, widowed, single) Ordinal variable: variable with ordered categories, but with undefined distances between values. Ordinal variable: variable with ordered categories, but with undefined distances between. Interval variable: variable with defined distances between values and arbitrary zero. Difference between 0 and 10 degrees is same has between 10 and 20 degrees. Temp in celsius has arbitrary zero: 0 degrees doesn"t mean anything (it does not equal no temperature) Ratio variable: variable with defined distances between values and a non- arbitrary zero.
