Patriarchal: historically, any social system that was based on the authority of the heads of the household, which were traditionally male; recently, the term has come to mean male domination in general. Years ago, women did not have the same access to education as men. Changed: over the past 24 years, percentage of women (25-64) doubled from 15% in 1991 to 35% in 2015, and the percentage of women aged 35- 64 with college diplomas grew from 14% in 1991 to 26% in 2015. Educational attainment for men also increased 9% to 19% Women are more likely to complete a university degree, but less likely to complete a high school diploma, and half as likely to obtain a trades certificate. Women are more likely to have jobs in visual and performing arts, social and behavioural sciences, law; men are more likely to have jobs in stem. Gender disparities have decreased over the years.
