Document Summary

Permits complete oxidation of glucose to energy in atp. Inter-membrane space where protons are used to create energy that ultimately helps make atp. Link between glycolysis and citric acid cycle: occurs only in the aerobic pathway, occurs in inner mitochondrial membrane (in eukaryotes, occurs in inner plasma membrane (in prokaryotes) This is to release energy to reduce nad+ to nadh + Citric acid cycle: completes oxidation of glucose to co2, occurs only in aerobic pathway, occurs in mitochondrial matrix, occurs in prokaryotes cytoplasm. Energy in acetyl coa (2c) drives reaction of acetate (2c) with oxaloacetate (4c) to produce citrate (6c) = 1st reaction of citric acid cycle. Nucleoside is structurally similar to atp therefore is an energy bearing cell. Citrate (6c) is oxidized and oxaloacetate (4c) is regenerates with the release of 2 molecules of co2 (6 co2, 2 x 1c) Produces 2 acetyl-coa per glucose used in glycolysis. 4 atp from glycolysis and citric acid cycle.
